TEF’s Older Adult Mobility Solutions Summit – Part Two
On March 7, 2025, TEF reconvened over 25 leaders for a second Older Adult Mobility Solutions Summit, once again hosted at St. David’s Foundation. The goal: move from identifying problems to designing actionable solutions for senior mobility in Central Texas.
After reviewing insights from the first summit, participants heard from Carol Wright Kenderdine, a national expert in transit for aging and disability populations. She shared examples of successful coalitions and coordination models from across the U.S., highlighting the transformative potential of cross-sector collaboration.
From Ideas to Action
The summit then shifted into hands-on planning. Attendees formed three working groups to propose project concepts for TEF’s planning and demonstration grant programs:
1. Community Outreach & Education
Proposed a citywide series of senior mobility resource fairs—bringing services, tech tools, and transportation providers directly to older adults in accessible, community-based settings.
2. Coordination
Envisioned a shared platform or service network that would allow providers to collaborate more effectively, reduce duplication, and streamline the user experience for older adults.
3. Technology
Outlined a concept for a collaborative ride-booking app—where seniors (or trusted caregivers) could schedule rides across multiple providers through a single, simplified interface, customized for local branding and trust.
Each group developed next steps and identified potential leads to carry their ideas forward. TEF board members reaffirmed their commitment to support these efforts through funding, strategic convening, and connections.
TEF encouraged participants to submit proposals by the June 16, 2025 funding deadline—and committed to continuing this collaborative work to ensure Central Texas becomes a national model for equitable senior mobility.
